Resolving common problems with external references

Working error-free with external reference files requires proper configuration of the Advanced File Management add-on. Following are some common problems that can occur and recommended solutions.

Problem Solution

Error message "Kronoxref error: Variable ‘xrefdir’ (or ‘masterdir’) not defined"

This error can occur if the Advanced File Management options of the Kronodoc web server are not configured correctly. Contact a Kronodoc system administrator.

Kronodoc properties are not transferred to the AutoCAD drawing title block

This error can occur for several reasons:

  1. The Kronodoc server configuration and the drawing title block names do not match. Kronodoc saves the document properties to the title block attributes that have been configured on the server. If you notice that the title blocks are not updated correctly or completely, it is possible that the title block and attribute names in the drawings are different from those that are configured in Kronodoc.

Also verify that you have the correct application profile and that it matches the one that is defined both in the server's property transfer configuration and in the client's cadref.ini file.
  2. The drawing format is not supported. Only AutoCAD drawings created by following applications are supported:
  • AutoCAD 2004
  • Mechanical Desktop 2004
  • AutoCAD FutureTools 2004
  • ARK 10

The correct application is not started

To start the correct application requires:

  • The correct profile set in the document properties
  • The correct application defined in the cadref.ini

Furthermore, the application that is defined in cadref.ini must exist in the path. The following two things can be done to troubleshoot the problem:

  • Set the onerror directive in cadref.ini to abort. If the application path is incorrect, you will now get an error.
  • In Windows Explorer, add the -v switch to the command line that is used by the Open action for the Kronodoc Advanced File Management Archive file type.

For example:

C:\<Folder>\<SubFolder>\cadref.exe –v “%1”

This will enable verbose logging of everything that the Advanced File Management program does to the file debuglog.txt located in the same folder as cadref.exe. For more information, see the Kronodoc Configuration Guide.

Advanced File Management overwrites files

When using subget or subcheckout to download CAD drawings from Kronodoc, the Advanced File Management add-on will overwrite any files with the same names that already exist in the working folders. Make sure you save edited files to Kronodoc and not only to your computer's hard disk.

If files still get overwritten, restore the drawing backup files that reside in the same folder (*.bak).
